USE OF UNLICENSED RUNWAY 07/25


A section of taxiway on the south-side of the Aerodrome has been marked as an unlicensed runway. The location of the this runway is shown on the Redhill Aerodrome ICAO Chart in the UK AIP. The markings and operational procedures have been agreed with CAA – ASD. Fixed-wing aircraft may only use this unlicensed runway when the grass runways are not useable by that particular aircraft type or have been withdrawn from use due to surface conditions.

The unlicensed runway is 500m x 10m with thresholds marked by black/white wing bars, runway designators and painted corner markings. The following operating restrictions apply to the use of this unlicensed runway:

i) An ATC service must be available

ii) Positive control will be exercised over all helicopters operating in the visual circuit

iii) ATC will ensure that any class 1 helicopter is no closer than 60m to the edge of the unlicensed strip, and that any class 2 helicopter is at least 120m from the strip

iv) Any helicopter in the Eastern Hover Square must remain on the ground whilst a fixed-wing is landing on Runway 25 or departing on Runway 07

v) Arrivals: meteorological visibility must be 5000m or greater and the cloud ceiling must not be lower than 700ft

Departures: meteorological visibility must be 3000m or greater and the cloud ceiling must not be lower than 700ft

vi) A maximum 90 degree crosswind of 10kts

vii) The unlicensed runway is not available after sunset

viii) Touch and Go landings are not permitted

ix) The Aerodrome Fire Service must be available

x) Only licensed pilots who have completed a course of instruction undertaken by a based flying training organisation and agreed with the SATCO or, those who have in excess of 100 hours may use this facility.

Should the meteorological conditions reduce below those in v) or exceed to those in vi) then operations will be suspended.
